Director's Welcome

The St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency Program has a thirty-six year tradition of training great Family Physicians. Established in 1971, our program has a proud tradition of training Family Physicians to provide excellent care to their patients in a stimulating academic setting.

We are a mission focused program in the tradition of Ascension health, the largest Catholic healthcare network in the country. We train physicians to provide health care that is safe, effective, and available to all. Our values of service of the poor, reverence, integrity, wisdom, creativity, and dedication guide us in all that we do in our training program.

The Program provides outstanding depth in multiple areas of training while striking the necessary balance between personal and professional lives. We work hard to provide great patient care yet find time to get together as a program several times per year. From resident retreats to gatherings in faculty homes, we seek to provide a stimulating academic program in a relaxed, family friendly environment.

Our residents enjoy an academic environment second to none with colleagues in Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Transitional Year, and Pediatrics residencies. Our excellent relationship with our sister programs provides Family Medicine residents with a large number of multidisciplinary lecture opportunities every week! Procedure opportunities are abundant and excellent experiences in Obstetrics, Sports Medicine, Geriatrics, International Medicine, Pediatrics and Underserved Care are available to our residents. We are home to a well established Geriatrics Fellowship.

We emphasize the development of leadership skills and team work that enables our resident physicians to practice the highest quality medicine while enhancing the health of the community we serve. We involve ourselves in our community in many ways from sports physicals in local schools to health fairs to a physician outreach network dedicated to serving the most vulnerable in our community.

We are fortunate to have a large patient base, which gives our residents the opportunity to train in all areas of Family Medicine. Our new Family Medicine Center which opened in October 2007, provides a world class facility in which to care for our patients and educate residents and students. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including electronic medical records and patient simulation models.

I invite you to explore why you should join the family of. St. Vincent Family Medicine in Indianapolis!
