IUSM Family Medicine Student Interest Group

Sept 24, 09

Dear IU Medical Students,

First and foremost on behalf of the entire St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency Program I would like to congratulate you on your interest in pursuing the challenging and rewarding career of family medicine. As many of you know the importance of primary care medicine is becoming more evident with each passing day, which leads me to believe the future of our specialty is filled with endless possibilities that are quite exciting. Simply put, it is a great time to be entering the field of family medicine.

I want you to know that everyone here at the St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency Program would be happy to answer any questions you may have. As a recent graduate who started at the Muncie campus, I have volunteered to be the liaison from our program to those with an interest in family medicine at IUSM.

We strive to continually update our website and invite you to sign up to receive notifications of changes and announcements. Of particular interest is the upcoming student reception Wednesday September 30 with the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians. For more information, contact the academy via their website: http://www.in-afp.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3359 or contact Laura Cotton at llcotton@stvincent.org

We have some great rotations that you may take during your third or fourth year and we would love to have you join us for a month of education and fun. I’ll share links and give you more information in a separate message.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about our programs. If I am unable to answer your questions, I will redirect you to one of the many in our program who are happy to help. I look forward to meeting with many of you in the future and again congratulations on considering becoming a family physician.
