Curriculum and Rotations

In an environment of clinical diversity and individualized curriculum development, residents not only gain comprehensive experience in General Internal Medicine, but are able to focus on those areas most important to their future practice goals.

St.Vincent offers three tracks that lead to eligibility for ABIM certification. The 3-year tracks, outlined below, are built on solid inpatient and outpatient experiences, yet provide ample flexibility for each individual's needs. Inpatient Call

PGY-1 call is every 5th night for most rotations. Call in the ICU is a float system, with up to one-third of the shifts on night float.

PGY-2/3s do approximately 4 weeks of night float call for the General Medicine Ward Service at specified times during the year. This eliminates overnight call for residents doing ward months. Call in the ICU is a day/night block float system.

Residents are exposed to extensive pathology, social and technological needs, and payer mix (including managed care), and write orders on all patients. All clinical care areas provide 24-7-365 ancillary support, including IV and phlebotomy teams.
