Hospital Medical Education Summer Program
Rising second-year medical students are invited to apply for one of 10 positions in the St.Vincent Hospital Medical Education (HME) Summer Program.
St.Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, offers an 8-week summer program designed to provide experience in an independent academic center. Students who have completed one year of medical school, in good standing, are eligible to apply.
Working with hospital staff and residents, students gain knowledge on six core one-week rotations on General Medicine, Family Practice, Critical Care, Emergency Room, OB/GYN, and Surgery. Students may also choose two one-week rotations from a list of electives that include Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Pediatrics, and Radiology.
The work week is Monday-Friday, though exact hours will vary depending on the rotation.
Students will also attend weekly lectures on a variety of pertinent subjects presented by staff physicians, residents, and even medical students.
START DATE
The Summer Program will begin on Monday, May 18, 2009. Since rotation schedules are made prior to the start date, students are asked to complete the program without taking time off unless there is an unusual circumstance.
PAY
Students will be employed by St.Vincent Hospital and should expect to earn $1600 for the 8-week period.
