ERAS Application
All applications to the Transitional Year and Preliminary Medicine residencies are received through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) which electronically transmits, via the internet, the applications and all supporting documents. U.S. Medical Graduates must apply to ERAS through the Dean's Office of their Medical Schools. International Medical Graduates must apply through the ECFMG Office.
Candidates who would like to be considered for both the Transitional Year and Preliminary Medicine residencies need to submit only one application and one set of documents, to either of the programs. A single interview will serve for both programs, and we will automatically rank all acceptable applicants for both residencies, independently of the program through which the application was received.
Interviews are by invitation only and are generally offered to applicants with a combination of solid medical school performance, above average USMLE scores, recent clinical experience in U.S. hospitals in which the student or physician had meaningful responsibility for patient management decisions, and strong letters of support from clinical supervisors. International Medical Graduates generally work under a J-1 visa.
How to Schedule an Interview
Applicants who are offered an interview will be directed to our scheduling web site to select the preferred interview date. Appointments are generally scheduled between October 15 and February 1. In case of conflicts or questions, the Manager of Medical Education is available at jadobson@stvincent.org. E-mail is our preferred method for communication but the Medical Education office can also be reached at (317) 338-2281.
Interview Day Agenda
Interview Day begins with an overview of the program by the Director. Applicants then participate in two individual interviews with the Faculty and/or GME staff. After the interviews, current Transitional/Preliminary residents give applicants a tour of the hospital and take them to lunch. Applicants are encouraged to ask any and all questions because we want you to be well-informed and we want to get to know you.
Amenities
Upon request, hotel accommodations will be provided for the night before the interview. Transportation to and from the airport is not provided. The only meal that is provided is lunch on the day of the interview.
